Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sells Out In Japan In A Day

A day in and Animal Crossing: New Horizons is already sold out in Japan.

We’re likely not surprised that Animal Crossing: New Horizons hit a ton of peoples’ nerves. Whether you were waiting for it since its reveal or even before or just want to see what the hype’s all about, copies are selling in droves. Something about building up your own small island town that drew fans of the franchise in.
Well, combine the draw of the Switch, the AC franchise, and the calls on social distancing and citizen-driven wariness of going outside a lot due to the coronavirus, and you have one heck of an escapism game. It was almost too convenient.
The stores, which feasibly had a ton of copies, were all sold out, though, it’s not surprising with how long fans have been waiting. They’ve been waiting with bated breath for New Horizons since its reveal during September 2018’s Nintendo Direct.

The game is in such high demand that stores simply weren’t prepared to accommodate. Japanese game retailer, GEO, for example, saw themselves run out in the early hours of its midnight release. Lines even spanned across the store.

Of course, those who ordered the copy through Amazon aren’t in for a good time either, though. Shipments to UK and US warehouses are being delayed for non-essential items. Since not everyone is GameStop (who thinks they’re essential retail), gaming isn’t usually considered to be essential. As such, Animal Crossing: New Horizons copies have been delayed. So, if you managed to get your copy already, you should feel lucky.
